Michele M. Mirto

Program Director & Attorney at Law

    As the Director of the Volunteer Lawyers Program for Southern Arizona Legal

    Aid, Michele spends a great deal of time recruiting, maintaining, and

    recognizing volunteer attorneys and law students.  As the VLP's managing

    attorney, she also oversees all client work and reviews every case the VLP

    receives.  With her innovative ideas and intense dedication to the program,

    Michele has helped the VLP grow by leaps and bounds since she joined the

    VLP in 1997.

M. Socorro Diaz

    Having been with the VLP for over 20 years, Socorro has dedicated her

    career to assisting low-income clients who are in need of legal help. 

    Socorro is responsible for referring clients to volunteer attorneys for direct

    representation, assisting with CLE seminars and recognition events, and

    scheduling attorneys to staff a variety of VLP Clinics.  As a Spanish speaker

    and native Tucsonan, Socorro goes out of her way to make sure her clients

    receive the services they need.

Randi Burnett

Student Coordinator & Staff Attorney

    Randi is a Southern Arizona native, having spent most her life in the tiny

    town of Wellton, Arizona, about 30 miles east of Yuma, before moving to

    Tucson to attend law school at the U of A.  As the VLP’s Student Coordinator

    and Staff Attorney, Randi manages the student based clinics which gives her

    the opportunity to get to know the over 150 students that volunteer with the

    VLP each year.  She feels that this is one of the highlights of her job, as she

    gets to watch the students grow and develop over the semester and gain

    confidence in their ability to help people.

Baudelina de Ramirez

Administrative Assistant & Outreach Coordinator

    Baude began work with the VLP in September of 2007.  She is a Tucson

    native with strong ties to the community, and she feels deeply connected

    to her downtown Tucson barrio.  As an Administrative Assistant, Baude

    coordinates the VLP's Domestic Relations Follow Up clinic, Paternity Clinic,

    and Spanish Domestic Relations Clinic..  She enjoys working with clients,

    attorneys and students and takes great pride in establishing relationships

    that have a positive, long lasting impact on our community.

Kara Slack

Administrative Assistant

    Kara joined the VLP in September 2009.  As an Administrative Assistant,

    Kara coordinates the VLP's Divorce with Children Clinic, the Employment

    Clinic, and the Minor Guardianship Project.  Kara also has responsibilities

    that allow her to assist rural clients in Cochise, Graham and Greenlee

    counties.  Kara received a BA in political Science from University of Arizona. 

    She has minors in Spanish and Journalism.  Kara also studied abroad

    focusing on Spanish language and Spanish history at the University of

    Alicante in Spain.   Kara feels that one of the highlights of her job is to

    help both VLP clients and the local communities.

Wyatt Cox

Administrative Assistant

    Wyatt began his work with the VLP as a volunteer and then joined the staff

    as an administrative assistant in November of 2009.  Wyatt coordinates the

    VLP's Advice Only Clinic, the Bankruptcy Reaffirmation Clinic and the Divorce

    without Children Clinic.  Wyatt's responsibilities also include travel to Pinal

    County to assist in the delivery of legal services to rural clients.  Wyatt

    graduated from the University of Arizona with a BA in Communications and a

    minor in marketing.  Most recently, Wyatt spent a year in Costa Rica where

    he coordinated volunteers who were building youth centers.  He has also

    volunteered with the Tucson Community Food Bank.

Diane Wangelin

Administrative Assistant

    Diane joined the VLP in January of 2008.  Originally from Rock Island, Illinois,

    Diane moved to Tucson to be near family and to enjoy the beautiful, dry

    Tucson climate.  She has spent most of her career working for non profit

    organizations and is deeply dedicated to helping those in need.  Diane

    is essential to the VLP's behind the scenes work, and has a hand in nearly

    every case the VLP touches.  Diane’s experience and attention to detail have
