Lisa Bibbens
September 2011
By Michele Mirto
Lisa Bibbens was selected to
receive
the Outstanding Pro Bono
Attorney of
the Month Award for September
2011.
Lisa has been a member of the
VLP in
Pima County since
1997.
During her
time with the program she has
represented
clients in domestic relations
matters.
In addition, Lisa has been
very involved
with the VLP’s pro per
clinics.
In
the
clinics, Lisa leads groups of
clients
through the documents
required to file their divorce or paternity action.
Over the
last fourteen years Lisa has
assisted two hundred and thirty-three VLP clients.
Every month, Southern Arizona
Legal Aid’s Volunteer Lawyers Program (VLP)
recognizes an attorney for
his her efforts and contributions to the program.
The
VLP’s monthly award is a
distinct honor: of the more than 1200 attorneys who
volunteer their time with the
VLP, only 12 receive the VLP’s Outstanding Pro
Bono Attorney award each
year.
Q & A with Lisa
Bibbens:
Where are you from?
I was born in southern
California, lived on a ranch in northern California during
my elementary school years, and
have also lived in New Mexico, Washington
state, and Texas.
What are your current practice
areas?
I practice exclusively in the
area of domestic relations.
What drives you to volunteer with
VLP?
There are so many individuals in
desperate need of legal assistance with their
custody and divorce matters, but
they do not have the resources to hire an
attorney.
I am thankful I have the
knowledge and time to be able to assist
some of these families through
the VLP.
Favorite Tucson restaurant?
Cafe Poca Cosa or
Hacienda del Sol.
Things you do when not
working or volunteering your legal services?
I love spending time with my
family – traveling, cooking, and trying new
restaurants.
I also enjoy playing in
the Tucson Women’s Soccer League,
playing ultimate frisbee, and
trail running.
Best thing about being an
attorney in Tucson?
The collegiality of the
family law bench and bar.
Are you a dog or a cat person?
Dog – we have a wonderful black
lab.
She loves to eat
(anything!) and trail run.
